Fort Lytton…

Location:  Fort Lytton, Brisbane

Date:  June 7, 2008

Having created for us a family full of boys, my days of quiet walks around the markets and window shopping are largely numbered!!  It now appears that I am about to grow an appreciation for machinery and combat!!  So when we heard about the Fort Lytton Historical Day, it was immediately scheduled as a family event…..can you hear the excitement in my voice??!!

In all seriousness though, Fort Lytton is an important reminder of times of war that essentially, are on our doorstep.  The Fort was built in 1881and was used for the defence of Brisbane until the end of the Second World War, it is a pentagonal fortress concealed on the grassy banks at the mouth of the Brisbane River.  The historical society holds this open day annually and gives opportunity for many of the war memorabilia to be on display.

Surpringly, (or not!) the boys loved all the guns, noise and action of the day.  I, on the other hand took my camera and consoled myself in the thought that it was a photo opportunity after all!!

Clear Blue…

There are lots of things that you miss when you leave home; free food, clean clothes and a taxi service to name a few!!  But when I left home, I didn’t realise that lifestyle would be one of the biggest thing that I would miss the most.  When living on the water, it appears that unconsciously, you wake up each morning and take note of whether the tide is in, the seagulls are about or the water quality is clear (bizarre I know!)  So, regularly Lachlan will ask to go to the Point and see if “the water is in.”  Today - the water was out!

Mothers’ Intuition…

Location:  Redlands, Brisbane

Date:  May 22, 2008

Well they say that a “mothers’ intuition is always right” and that is what Karen prooved to all!!  After my last post saying that Karen had a feeling that we should do the maternity shoot sooner rather than later, she took it upon herself to go into labour that night, and after going out to breakfast with friends (who does that!!), she and Guy went off to hospital to welcome into the world little Haylee Jade.

Welcome Haylee and I can’t wait to photograph watch you grow!!

Family traditions….

My Dad has taught me many things so far, most of them have helped me to become what I am today.  But one thing he has taught me, I don’t think he even realised was a lesson in life.  From an age I can’t even remember, as a little girl growing up - he always taught me, “Red at night - shepherd’s delight.  Red in the morning - shepherd’s warning.”  These days I can’t help but to look up in the late afternoon sun and take note of what tomorrow’s forecast might bring.  But what I don’t know if Dad realised is, he was also teaching me to stop and take time to look up…..and appreciate.

Waiting…

Location:  Redlands, Brisbane

Date:  April 19, 2008

You know how you can meet a person and just know that they have been put on this Earth to mother - with those true instinctive maternal impulses, they “know” how to mother without even a second thought.  Well, that’s not me!!!  There is a real reason why I became a senior high school teacher and not a kindergarten teacher!!!  But, Karen, who my husband Craig has worked with for far too many years, is truly one of those people that you would trust your children with.  It was also no surprise to most, when she announced that her and Guy were expecting their first baby.  What I didn’t expect was for her to openly invite me in, to share a maternity session with her.

Karen is all but full term at the moment with bubby well and truly to make an appearance - Karen had a feeling that we had better get this session complete sooner rather than later - so I complied!

And with no exceptions to all members of the family - here are the furry members who definately no something is in the making!!
