A special gift…

Location:  At home on the Gold Coast

Date:  April 25, 2008

Well, with the decision made that I was going to try to become more that a “mother with a camera” the urge to photograph something, anything was very strong!!  So, after exhausting all possible poses with my own children, the thought of Children’s Photography became a reality.

My sister-in-law and brother-in-law welcomed (albeit it a little earlier than planned!) a true blessing from above and called him Jake.  I was absolutely delighted when they asked me if I would photograph him in his first days at home…. and thus this became the first newborn shoot.  Jake is only 3 weeks fresh at this shoot - yet still one week shy of his due date.

Welcome to the world my little nephew and I can’t wait to watch you grow into the beautiful soul I can already see.  Kisses baby boy.

Take care and best wises…

The wonders of nature..

Location:  North Stradbroke Island, Redlands

Date:  Easter, 2008

Lately I’ve been really starting to appreciate the environment that we are living in.  Now don’t worry, I’m not about to stop shaving under my arms and run around chaining myself to trees!! But I am very conscious of what’s here for us to enjoy and making a few personal choices to ensure most of it is still around for the boys to enjoy later.  All of this is of course made a lot easier when you realise that locations such as North Stradbroke Island are only a ferry ride away from home!

My father-in-law graciously (or bravely) gives us all an open invitation to his weekend home, so this Easter we took him up on the offer, bundled the kids up and headed over!!  Straddie is the most beautiful, largely untouched location that I would love to explore with a camera lens extensively.  Alas, with the children still small, it’s sealed roads and small walks for us for sometime yet.

My Nanny…

Location:  North Gosford Private Hospital; Central Coast of NSW

Date:  March, 2008

Well, just when I thought I had my grasp of photography all mapped out - I received a sudden dose of reality!!  When I was thinking about capturing emotion and real-life moments, I had eluded to the fact that there is another side to the coin…sadness, pain and despair.  My dear Nanny, who is still providing for her own care at home at the age of 80 something (wouldn’t dare give away a lady’s secrets would I!!) had a bad fall and landed herself in hospital.  Her spirits were down, so my Mum and I ventured down to the Sydney with the twins in tow, to provide a healthy dose of family love.

I found that taking these images was very different, and as Nanny has done many times in my life already - she taught me a new lesson - that photography isn’t all about smiles and happiness, true emotion is much much more.

Love you Nanny and will be wishing you well every day.

The Dress…

Locations:  The Powerhouse, New Farm Park and Shorncliffe Pier, Shorncliffe; Brisbane

Date:  March 29, 2008

I can honestly say that I’m not sure when I decided to become a photographer, I’m not even certain it was a conscious thought to be honest!!  But I do know the exact moment that I felt that first burning desire in my belly to capture a precious emotion in time and record it forever on film (or jpeg as it would be today!)  And here is the shoot that that very moment occurred.

A local photographer organised a Trash the Dress (TTD) session and I was fortunate enough to be invited along for the experience.  For those that haven’t heard of this latest craze - a TTD session simply provides the bride and Groom with an additional photographic session post nuptials, however allowing them to explore alternative locations that would simple be unthinkable on the wedding day.  TTD sessions have occurred around the globe in caves, on beaches, in creeks and ponds, in run down and burnt houses, or any other “out of the norm” location that provides a stunning backdrop!  Fortunately not all sessions actually result in the dress being “trashed” - that is reserved for the truly game (or those that didn’t really like their dress in the first place!)

If you are interested in pulling out your wedding attire for a TTD session (regardless of the time that has elapsed since your nuptials!) please feel free to contact me - these sessions are a lot of fun for all involved!
